Intended entrants should sign up on the mess whiteboard in the week running up to the event; this gives the organisers a fighting chance of sorting out the judging form. Judging will be anonymous, with the entries assigned a number as they are produced.
All mess members interested in eating the entries are welcome to pay a suggested £2-3 donation to that round's charity. In exchange for this you get to try as many entries as you like (or are able of doing!) and a judging form. Judges are reminded that they should aim to try a small piece of each entry, not gobble the whole flipping thing.
Judges give all the entries that they sample a mark out of 10, with the option of adding a pithy 'Hollywood' quote should they really feel the need.
Entries should be in the mess by 12 noon on the day of the round. Rounds will be judged between 12 and 2pm; at the end of this time, the judging forms are collected in and the scores calculated.
Highest scoring entry = 10 leaderboard points
Second scoring entry = 8 leaderboard points
Third scoring entry = 6 leaderboard points
Fourth scoring entry = 4 leaderboard points
Fifth scoring entry = 3 leaderboard points
Sixth scoring entry = 2 leaderboard points
Everyone else gets a point for showing up and being a jolly good sport...
In the event of a tie, both of the tied entries get the highest point score (for example, if 2 entries tied on 120 points, and the other scores were 121, 118, there would be two second place '8' points awarded and the 118 would get third place '6' points).
There are no eliminations! This is so that if on-call schedules or annual leave get in the way, every entrant has a realistic change of finishing in the top three.
At least the top three bakers will receive FABULOUS PRIZES yet to be determined, also unmitigated bragging rights.
The best Hollywood quotes will be featured on the website; the best quote at the end of the competition as determined by The Mess President Herself will also receive a FABULOUS PRIZE.
